Publisher's Summary

From bestselling indie author Laura Thalassa comes the newly revised and edited second book in her smash-hit dark fantasy romance between a siren and the “bargainer” she owes countless favors to.

She survived the mad king … but the nightmare isn’t over.

Siren Callypso Lillis still wears the physical reminders of her time as Karnon’s captive, even after reuniting with soulmate Desmond Flynn, the King of Night. Not only that, but mounting evidence suggests the Thief of Souls, the being responsible for the disappearance of countless fae warriors, is still out there.

Invited to an annual Solstice celebration, Callie and Des journey to the Kingdom of Flora to continue their investigation. But under the bright lights and striking blooms of the realm, new complications arise, ones that no amount of bargaining can undo. Soldiers begin to go missing from the gathering, and some of the fae begin to suspect Des is the man behind it all. To Callie, one thing is certain: no one is who they appear to be. Not even her soulmate.

Fairies play dangerous games. Some want love, some want vengeance, some want flesh, and some want horrors too unspeakable to name. Something is stirring in the Land of All that Grows, and if Callie isn’t careful, it will claim everything she loves—and her along with it.

A let down from the first book

The first half of the book seems to have forgotten that there was a storyline. The second half was good but was very disconnected from the first half.
However, I wouldn’t recommend as the last book in the series was bad enough that I didn’t finish it (made it 90% of the way and gave up).

I loved how it twisted things so you almost doubted Des

Liked the book, was waiting for the big twist but wasn’t too shocked in the end

engaging storyline

The world that has been created blends the traditional ideas of what you think the fairy land would look like with the author imagines. the story keeps you engaged all the way through

Ugh

Welp, I'm solidly disappointed with this one. It felt like the authors first dive into fantasy and she was struggling to keep it all together and moving forward. On one storyline you have Des showing Callie around the Night Kingdom with nothing further about the Thief of Souls. Then in the 2nd half they journey to another Kingdom that we don't get to hear a lot about, but we're back on the Thief of Souls storyline. There were a number of elements and side characters that would pop up at random times almost like the author forgot about it and needed to add it in again. I'm not sure I can do the next book just now tbh.

The narrator was amazing, she has done an amazing job. I've enjoyed listening to her.

Cringe worthy & frustrating

I enjoyed book 1, it had a lot going on and lots of strong story and character development, and the story overall had potential.
However, do not waste your money or time on book 2. The story started out well, but then becomes very hollow. The relationship between Des and Cali is sooo ick, especially when you find out that this older man whose been in her life for years admits he's been in love with her and fantasised about her since she was 16, and pines over the missed 7 years together being able to explore each other. Grooming vibes.
The story is a bit flimsy and so is their supposed 'mate' connection. He seems to have an innate connection to her all the time except for when it actually matters and she's in trouble.
He's all powerful, but also not powerful enough to over power someone in a fist fight while making sure Cali is still safe...like seriously come on.
Don't waste your time with this series....it will suck you in with the first book being "FREE" but then make you waste your money on the other time wasting books in the series.
