What harm can one small lie do?
Forced to give up her career as a dentist, and still unemployed a year later, Valentina Knight has finally run out of options. With foreclosure looming she acts in desperation, lying to get a position as an assistant to the county medical examiner. Val's relieved. She won't be homeless. But Val didn't count on the lie trapping her in a dangerous game with a killer.
Val quickly becomes involved in the case of Francine Donohue, who disappeared from her neighborhood and is discovered dead six months later. The bizarre circumstances surrounding the murder are not the first of their kind. With the evidence pointing to a serial killer, and a calling card Val understands, she quickly gets sucked into the case.

Great Story with an Amazing Twist
A serial killer, stolen identities, and a desperate ex dentist in need of a job at the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Standout Psychological Thriller!
This was the most engaging psychological thriller I have listend to in a long time. I was hooked from start to finish.
Story and characters were very interesting and likeable. Yet the narrator, although she did well considering it challenging to do male voices did not easily change her voice for the different male characters so was hard to distinguish between the male investigators at times. This would have been better delivered in partnership with a male narrator for the male parts. Her voice overall was pleasant to listen to however.

Narration could have made all the difference
When narration is weak, hard to distinguish between characters, male voices are pretty pathetic it lets the book down. It was just torture. The speed of the narrator had to be adjusted, I couldn’t continue past half way through.
Shame could have been an ok novel and to the narrator I’m sorry 😞

Thriller with twists & turns
This story started really strong which got me hooked. Unfortunately about half way it got confusing with so many characters. I got lost with characters that I thought were an intrepid part of the story only to see them fade into the background.

Enjoyable book
This was my first Mary Bush book and U thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll be reading more as her writing flows well and was narrated nicely. Totally recommend this title.
