Dr. Joseph Murphy (1898-1981), who spent considerable time in India learning Hindu philosophy, helped form a new church in America with Hindu ideologies that later became one of the largest New Thought congregations in the country. Murphy eventually married, and he earned a PhD in psychology from the University of Southern California.
