وصل عامر إلى موقع الطابية الرملية والبطارية في يده تنير له الطريق، وكان الشاطيء يبدو في ظلام الليل البهيم كالصحراء المهجورة. فلا أثر ولا صوت لإنسٍ أو حيوان اللهم إلّا صوت هدير أمواج البحر الهائج.

صوّب بطاريته إلى (الشاطر حسن) و(علي بابا) فخيّل إليه أنّهما يبحلقان فيه، وأنّهما يتحركان لملاقاته والترحيب به...سرت القشعريرة في بدنه ووقف في مكانه جامدًا بلا حراك، ولكن التمثالين لم يتحركا بطبيعة الحال فتنفس الصعداء..

وفجأة ضعف ضوء البطارية، ثمَّ انطفأت، وساد الظلام...

لعن عامر حظه العاثر وقال: ليس هذا وقته، ولكن الحمدلله أنّي أعرف طريقي إلى المنزل في الظلام. ولكنه ما كد يأخذ طريقه إلى المنزل القريب حتى سمع صوتًا أخذ يعلو كلّما اقترب منه. ثمَّ رأى أضواء سيارة تتجه نحوه ببطء شديد وهي تسير بصعوبة في الرمال!!
