Publisher's Summary
Michael Pollan’s unmatched ability to draw lines of connection between our everyday experiences - whether eating, gardening, or building - and the natural world has been the basis for the popular success of his many works of nonfiction, including the genre-defining best sellers The Botany of Desire, The Omnivore’s Dilemma, and In Defense of Food. With this updated edition of his earlier book, A Place of My Own, listeners can revisit the inspired, intelligent, and often hilarious story of Pollan’s realization of a room of his own—a small, wooden hut, his “shelter for daydreams” — built with his admittedly unhandy hands. Inspired by both Thoreau and Mr. Blandings, A Place of My Own not only works to convey the history and meaning of all human building, it also marks the connections between our bodies, our minds, and the natural world.

Not bad
Not quite as good as his others but still interesting. Architects may enjoy more

A great listen
I found this book to be entertaining and somewhat informative on matters around the thought processes and practicalities of designing and building “a place of your own”.
I’ll definitely be returning to this book for inspiration.

Another excellent Michael Pollan!
Fantastic insights into the world of Architecture and Building, I bet the hard back has a special place on Kevin McCleod's bookshelf.

Melodic, thoughtful & unassumingly funny.
Michael Pollen on a subject he knows as well as the back of his hand. Without vaulting ambition or self-righteous frustrstion, this book walks us through the process of building a 'first person singular space in wood'. I left feeling like I'd sat on Joe's bolder and watched it all. Warming stuff.

Slow, and not insightful
was just a bit boring with a lot of waffle, doesn't have lessons for design and is more a slow story of someone designing and building a shack not really what I was looking for would of rather got a pattern language or something a bit more insightful
