Publisher's Summary
Caroline Evans is a single mom trying to raise her 15-year-old daughter, Issy, as best she can. Her ex-husband, James, was a philandering charmer, and a wealthy one at that. Their life had been lavish, but Caroline couldn't put up with his cheating and left him, taking Issy with her. And Issy has never forgiven her for this.
Now, they live in the countryside outside London, where Caroline has built a modestly successful catering business, and Issy is now at an all-girls boarding school. Things are beginning to feel normal. But when James mysteriously appears on her doorstep one night and then vanishes soon after, Caroline feels her world being turned upside down once again. Delving into a world of high-stakes finance she knows little about, Caroline and Issy must find a wary peace, and solve a murder. And Caroline also finds herself guarding a wounded heart against yet another man who seems determined to win her over.
With trademark twists and turns and memorable characters, Elizabeth Adler delivers another summer getaway novel that will leave you gasping for more.

Great life story
What sounded boring in the beginning unfolded into an interesting life story,
full of twists and turns. Heartbreak, new beginning and love. Nothing missing.
Very well told.

Awful narration
The narrator sounded like a 10 year old- though I have known 10year olds that read much more expressively than this. The main character made me grit my teeth and roll my eyes. Needless to say I didn’t get past chapter two.

Poor narration
I'm not really sure why I persisted with this book. not a great story line and the worst narration ever.
I was continually frustrated by the repeated mispronunciation of words (especially of the character's name, "Jesus")!!!

Hmmm
Not sure why I finished this book. It rambled on and on. The narration wasn't great. Twice Changi Airport, Singapore, is called Shanghai airport!!! Maybe it was just the strange accent of the narrator? 🤷♀️
Will I listen to another by this author? I'm not sure

Nearly gave up with this one
After listening to hundreds of books on Audible I nearly gave up but kept going to see what happened. Wish I hadn’t bothered. The worst narration I have ever heard, some of the pronunciation was unbelievable. Maybe these things need to be checked. Not sure if the narrator was American trying to be English but whatever it was it was horrible.
