About this listen

The first book of a thought-provoking sci-fi adventure series about humanity reaching the stars, encountering new life forms, and escaping tyranny.

Earth has fallen under the influence of the Fermion Party, whose members believe humanity’s future lies in the metaverse, a simulated environment to which people can upload their consciousness to become immortal. As a simulant, one cannot get sick, grow old, or die. Human beings have no business risking their lives in the betaverse, where injury and illness can kill them. And those who wish to explore beyond the solar system blaspheme what the Fermions believe is the natural order.

Trillion von Nichol, Atlas Tupu, Icarus Kishida, and Angelique Komene are the Beta Explorers. They have been living on Mars and training as astronauts to eventually locate planets that can sustain the next generation of humans. But when the Fermions invade the red planet to assassinate them, they launch before they are mission ready. Four different ships, with four AIs attuned to each astronaut’s personality, leave for four random destinations to colonize worlds thousands of years in the future.

Now, each Beta Explorer must learn how to function as a simulant to complete their mission. Interfacing with their AIs, they explore potential habitable planets and develop technology to assist in terraforming atmospheres for humans, all the while attempting to reconnect with one another. But the Betas are not the only intelligent species in the universe. And their first contact may be their last when the Fermion’s Starforce Alliance tracks them down to annihilate them once and for all.

The first volume of the hit science-fiction adventure series—originally released on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Incredible book.

The story was interesting and fresh.
I see the resemblance to Bobiverse that other reviews talk about.
I’m excited about the next books in the series.

Characters are realistic

This is the first book I read where the main characters aren't perfect and always doing the obvious thing. I can see myself in them, and I can see myself making many of this mistakes they make as they figure out how to terraform planets. definitely worth the read.

Great story and surprising characters!

Ready Player One meets Hitchhikers Guide, smashes into Valhalla. Deep ideas explored in space and time.

A gripping and original sci-fi thriller that will keep you hooked until the end.

A New Eden is the first book in The Betaverse series, a sci-fi thriller space adventure that follows four astronauts who escape from a dystopian Earth where people upload their minds to a virtual reality called the metaverse. They embark on a mission to colonize new planets in the betaverse (great name for the real world BTW).
The characters are diverse, complex, and relatable (one of the main characters is like my sister). The universe is rich and immersive and I’m looking forward to the next book.

Truely Alien Aliens

Whenever you meet an alien in most books, they're basically humans with an extra arms. But not this book, the aliens are truely alien. I don't want to add any spoilers but a big part of this book is dedicated to just how hard it would be to speak with aliens who think, act, and speak differently to us. It has a great kiwi humour to it. It is adventurous, It is emotional and so so heartwarming at times. You really get attached to the main characters and the Aliens are by far the best versions of Aliens I've read in a long time.

Luke Daniels is the best! Scott Meyer would be proud.

Luke brings his A game in this series! He delivers a cast of unique voices and in a more serious tone than I’ve heard him do before.
One of Luke’s best performances to date.
Story wise, this has the makings of a great new sci-fi series. There's a lot of great new ideas in this book. And the characters are unique his story has multiple POVs, and each of them is unique and different in the way they tackle problems. I can't wait for the next book in the series - the first entry is great.

Pretty good overall

I enjoyed the book overall, though a few moments made me raise an eyebrow. I can definitely see the inspiration the book has taken, from books like the Bobiverse series. Overall well narrated, I like the characters, and I'm curious to see where the story will go.

Variable

I listened to the whole thing so it isn’t terrible, and in fact there are some quite interesting ideas. I found the basic premise - that people who upload to the meta verse would want to prevent those in the real world from exploring the universe - to be very unlikely so I was always a bit out of the story. The stuff with time is certainly interesting though again really rather convenient for the plot. I would say it’s a pretty fair listen, mostly for the ideas rather than the characters or plot.
