About this listen

Shortlisted for the National Book Awards

Graham Norton's debut novel, Holding, was a Sunday Times best seller and loved everywhere. His new novel, A Keeper, is a twisted tale of secrets and ill-fated loves that once again demonstrates Norton's understanding of human nature and all its darkest flaws.

The mystery of Elizabeth Keane's father is one that has never been solved by the people of Buncarragh - not for lack of speculation. Her mother, Patricia, had been assumed a spinster until she began dating a mysterious man from out of town and within months had left Buncarragh and had married.

Less than two years later, Patricia was back, with a new baby in her arms but no new husband by her side and unbendingly silent about her recent past. A secret she would take with her to her grave.

Now, as Elizabeth returns to the village after her mother's funeral, bringing with her her own regrets and wounds, she finds a thin pile of ribbon-bound letters at the back of a wardrobe that may at last hold the key to her past:

Dear Lonely Leinster Lady,
I'm not really sure how to begin....

Loved it

I became addicted to listening to this book. Being a fan of graham norton, it was a delight to listen to me and the story was great.
I’ve since downloaded another of his books and I’m trying to save that to listen to on my 20 hr flight to the UK.

My first audio book def a keeper

Genuinely enjoyed this book
Honestly just picked it without reading the blurb or reviews knowing I’d love hearing Grahams voice alone lol but he is also a talented writer so off to peruse his other books now

A Keeper in name and in action.

Beautifully written book and the narration was great. This is a very gentle book but with quite a dark story if that makes any sense at all. It’s not a book that you can write anything about without giving away the plot. Let’s just keep it to it’s an enjoyable way to spend 8 hrs.

Keeper worth keeping

I just loved this book and went scurrying to find others by Graham.
I mean, who knew?....I was a bit reluctant being a book by a 'personality' - but he is a wonderful writer, narrator, storyteller....and comedian, and TV host, and vigneron, and probably a great all-round bloke as well.

A fabulous yarn

Graham’s second novel moves up a notch in characterisation and storyline. The language flows, the plot thickens and the transition between Then and Now is brilliantly written. There is no doubt that hearing Graham read the novel adds one hundred percent to its enjoyment. The voices, especially Edward and his ma, are wonderful. Can’t wait to read his next novel!

You Wouldn't Read about it!

Loved it! Secrets and gossip prevail in a fairly simple story but the main characters really steal the show. Great storytelling that leaves you wondering until the very end
