A.B. Facey
About this listen
Born in 1894, Facey lived the rough frontier life of a sheep farmer, survived the gore of Gallipoli, raised a family through the Depression and spent 60 years with his beloved wife, Evelyn. Despite enduring hardships we can barely imagine today, Facey always saw his life as a "fortunate" one. A true classic of Australian literature, his simply written autobiography is an inspiration. It is the story of a life lived to the full - the extraordinary journey of an ordinary man.

A simply told story of a pioneer in Western Australia
The narrator does an excellent job of mirroring the simplicity with which the writer has penned his life story. From turn of the 19th-20th century he tells of his childhood experiences of poverty & lack of education or care. He writes of how he survives & details why he tries a great variety of jobs. Facey experiences 2 world wars & sees great changes in Australia during his life. A resilient humble man & a simple but powerful account of a life of struggle with both joys& pain.

An Australian classic
A very humble account of the life and times of AB Facey. I could not put it down. He faced his challenges head on and was very respectful towards his grandmother, wife, and children. The narration was brilliant.

Unbelievable
Bert Facey is Australia's Forrest Gump. This book should be mandatory reading in Australian schools and for anyone who cares about where we've come from

I will never not love this book
A real look into what life was like for the white people who settled in Western Australia in it's early years, a wonderful recollection of a life filled with gratitude for the most simple and basic requirements. Growing up without many male influences around, Bert gave me a somewhat idealised version of what a man should be, but also set a high standard for partners in adulthood and gave a lovely introspection into the male world. This book is fabulous for getting kids more interested in history, this and the 'Little House' series really put me onto a love of history in my childhood that continues to this day. Just as fabulous to read as an adult and relive my favourite parts, I was reading it to my partner (acc in his name) but this audiobook is way better to be able to fully enjoy it together in laziness, and it's so nice to occasionally hear the narrator thoroughly enjoying it, too.
