Publisher's Summary
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book three in her beloved Flesh and Fire series…
The only thing that can save the realms now is the one thing more powerful than the Fates.
After a startling betrayal ends with both Sera and the dangerously seductive ruler of the Shadowlands she has fallen madly in love with being held captive by the false King of the Gods, there is only one thing that can free Nyktos and prevent the forces of the Shadowlands from invading Dalos and igniting a War of Primals.
Convincing Kolis won’t be easy, though–not even with a lifetime of training. While his most favored Revenant is insistent that she is nothing more than a lie, Kolis’s erratic nature and twisted sense of honor leave her shaken to the core, and nothing could’ve prepared her for the cruelty of his Court or the shocking truths revealed. The revelations not only upend what she has understood about her duty and the very creation of the realms but also draw into question exactly what the true threat is. However, surviving Kolis is only one part of the battle. The Ascension is upon her, and Sera is out of time.
But Nyktos will do anything to keep Sera alive and give her the life she deserves. He’ll even risk the utter destruction of the realms, and that’s exactly what will happen if he doesn’t Ascend as the Primal of Life. Yet despite his desperate determination, their destinies may be out of their hands.
But there is that foreseen unexpected thread—the unpredictable, unknown, and unwritten. The only thing more powerful than the Fates…

It hurts my soul to only give this 3 stars
Firstly, Stina Nielsen always does such an amazing job and I always love listening to her narration and is probably the reason I am giving this a generously 3 stars but I was SO disappointed with this book. I enjoyed the 1st & 2nd book & love the FBBA series but this one definitely fell flat for me. I was so confused with all the chaotic mess for the first 9/10 chapters and was so bored with everything until Sera was finally reunited with Ash. It immediately got better once they were together again BUT *spoiler alert* you’re going to have to wait until a good half way until they are reunited.
Secondly, I love smut/spice as much as the next girly (I’ve read some fucked up shit) but I feel like it was so unnecessary towards the end of the book & I feel like JLA jammed it all in there to make up for lost time but I was just too much. Sera was meant to be DYING - I thought they should have been able to do so much more with her time before she ‘died’.
I really hope the next books for this series & FBAA make up for this one. Please Jennifer I beg.

Butt sex
I love this series . The female character has strength and is not perfect but works on her issues but still fights for her friends . And her strength is never waived by men or feminine issues . She is strong because she strong .

Not as good as the last books.
I like this series and the other one too, but the pacing was very slow compared to the others.
It was also far too repetitive and waffle-y. This book was kind of a letdown.
Will definitely listen to the next book, and I hope more stuff happens.
As always, the narrator is amazing.

Solid
Look, if you’ve read this far in the series, you’re going to be satisfied. There’s nothing “seriously wrong with” it. It’s exciting and a sure bet, same as the others. But is it possible that they spent a little too much time shagging at times? Did the corn:plot ratio need a little tweaking at certain times? Yes and yes.
My main gripe otherwise was that the audio volume levels were inconsistent, fading in on low volume and increasing in loudness every now and then - slightly off putting if you’re listening at sleep time, but that’s not JLA or Stina’s fault.

Love this author!
A few glitchy editing issues, but I love everything and anything by Jennifer Armentrout. Can’t wait for the final book of this series to be out in a few months.
