Publisher's Summary
When the gods come calling, you don’t get to say no.
Patrick Collins is three years into a career as a special agent for the Supernatural Operations Agency when the gods come calling to collect a soul debt he owes them. An immortal has gone missing in New York City and bodies are showing up in the wake of demon-led ritual killings that Patrick recognizes all too easily from his nightmares.
Unable to walk away, Patrick finds himself once again facing off against mercenary magic users belonging to the Dominion Sect. Standing his ground alone has never been a winning option in Patrick’s experience, but it’s been years since he’s had a partner he could trust.
Looking for allies in all the wrong places, Patrick discovers the Dominion Sect’s next target is the same werewolf the Fates themselves have thrown into his path. Patrick has been inexplicably attracted to the man from their first meeting, but desire has no place in war. That doesn’t stop Patrick from wanting what he shouldn’t have. Jonothon de Vere is gorgeous, dangerous, and nothing but trouble - to the case, to the fight against every hell, and ultimately, to Patrick’s heart and soul.
In the end, all debts must be paid, and Patrick can only do what he does best - cheat death.

One of my favourite series.
Brilliant world building, awesome plot, smoking hot queer romance that just... is what it is in the world. I love the author's take on the mechanics of magic and godhood, and the supporting characters just get better as the series progresses.
also, the voice actor is absolutely brilliant. one of the few I have hotlisted on Audible. he's an absolute master of accents and conveys the full spectrum of emotions perfectly. definitely worth reading. I've lost count on how many times I've revisited this series.

A series worth listening to.
I love this series, the characters and plot make you feel like you are there. The wider pantheon of gods is really interesting and I just love Hermes. My only issue with the stories were that the sex scenes had too much detail and were too long, I ended up fast forwarding through them after the first two.
Someone needs to hand Hailey Turner a thesaurus as over use of “preternatural” starts to grate after a while and too many things make “teeth ache”.
Gary Furlong is good at most accents and voices, pity about the American accent when saying “arse” it hurts an Aussie such as myself to hear the pronunciation of the “r” when he gets it right in all the other accents.

UF but different
Hailey Turner is a new author to me. I very much enjoyed this story and will definitely be listening to the rest of the series and investigating any others she has written. I liked the characters, the presence of gods from several pantheons and the magic system. While UF, it has plenty of differences to other books in the genre so you won't just be getting more of the same. The narrator did a good job of bringing the world to life and has plenty of variety in the voices he uses.

AMAZING!
I love jonos accent I love the story the characters everything was amazing. im not a fan of military themes or characters in books I find it insufferable but I actually enjoyed it in this book and I’m definitely getting the rest of the series.
TW for truma and truma responses from war and childhood a bit of torture and he’s a little bit of an alcoholic not a lot but a little. It’s not very graphic pretty safe as a whole even if these are your triggers.
I recommend this so muchhhhhhh this is everything I want in a book gay mystery action violence fantasy supernatural im obsessed
Also if you liked this book I recommend Charlie adhara’s wolf at the door series!

Gay propaganda
Propaganda story’s are always a bummer most of the time they aren’t any good it’s almost worse when they are good.
I don’t like having a message forced on me
PS yes I know this review will be removed that is how propaganda works.

good story but honestly could be better
I agree with the previous review. the author needs to not heavily use the word "preternatural" for things that don't need it's use for.
you used it for describing someone's strength when they were holding someone up.
the sex scenes were too long as well.
the plot and story was marginally okay. it's really a shame tho.
