About this listen
As she travels the world to try and build bridges, the Queen is advised by the 'men in moustaches', as Philip calls them - her father's old courtiers, who may or may not have her best interests at heart. One of them is trying to sabotage her: that much she is sure of.
And then two bodies turn up, horribly murdered, in Chelsea, and the Queen finds herself unwillingly used as the alibi for somebody very close to her.
Elizabeth knows she can't face these challenges alone. She needs support from someone clever, discreet and loyal, someone she can trust. Then she meets ex-Bletchley Park code breaker, Joan McGraw, and their investigation into the murders begins in earnest . . .©2024 SJ Bennett (P)2024 Bonnier Books UK

Brilliant plot
I loved the plot and characterisation of the various players both real and fictionalised. I enjoyed the whole experience of this publication and am looking very much forward to the new iteration. The narrator? Brilliant it made the book really come to life!

So much fun - again
I’ve loved all books in this series. The story was interesting and with a high level of detail. I wondered if I would miss some of characters I’d enjoyed in the other books but found Joan to be a terrific presence.
Samantha Bond is a fabulous narrator and I highly recommend the notes and author interview at the end.
I adore Vaseem Khan, so there is that, but the comments provided explanations behind features and choices in the story. I’m usually a hard marker but this was a five star experience for me

Another Great Novel
Following the end of "A Death in Diamonds" there is an interview with the author during which she mentions that Dorothy L Sayers is her favourite Golden Age author. I have purchased all the "Her Majesty The Queen Investigates" novels and SJ Bennett is a fitting literary descendant of Sayers: her novels are lively, well researched and beautifully written. As a bonus, the perpetrator is never easy to spot, quite rare when you have read as many detective novels as I have. I am really looking forward to the next adventure with Her Majesty.

Another satisfying story from S J Bennett
This audio version of A Death in Diamonds is the perfect marriage between an experienced storyteller and the wonderful actor,Samantha Bond, who has given life to many authors words.
This fourth story in the series is, again, a delightful mix of a well researched historical background on a slow and carefully drawn fictional mystery story - true to the genre of the Golden Age of Mystery Writing.
I’d like to think that Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth, did indeed read at least one of these stories with approval!
