About this listen

A gripping standalone thriller from the Sunday Times No.1 bestselling author of the Logan McRae series.

Beware of the dark…

Welcome to the Misfit Mob – where Police Scotland dumps the officers it can’t get rid of, but wants to. Officers like DC Callum MacGregor, lumbered with all the boring go-nowhere cases. So when an ancient mummy is found at the Oldcastle tip, it’s his job to track down its owner.

But then Callum uncovers links between his mummified corpse and three missing young men, and life starts to get a lot more interesting.

No one expects the Misfit Mob to solve anything, but right now they’re all that stands between a killer’s victims and a slow lingering death. Can they prove everyone wrong before someone else dies?

Persevere. It's worth it. His best yet.

By the second chapter I was considering abandoning this book. I'd just finished the Logan MacRae series so had high hopes.
I'm so pleased I hung in there. Callum seems doomed and unlikeable, but the story pulls you in, and he becomes very real.
Great yarn. Lots of clever stuff. Can you solve the mysteries?

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole book.

The twists and turns where gripping and the narrator was great. Both thumbs up.
While the length of the book may put some people off, it was a bonus for me.

Stick with it. Worth it 5+

Bit slow at the beginning but the pace picks up. Plenty of twists and turns.
I ended up really enjoying this book. I would like to see this character and team again.

Great narration as always.

Entertaining

A little far fetched that every person was clever with the banter and sarcasm which became a little distracting but enjoyable.

Best story yet

This has been the best story yet. It’s so clever in the twists and turns of the plot. Great characters too. The performance made the story come to life and the ending was really unexpected. Loved every minute of it.

Better than the McCrae series

I have listened to the whole series (some twice) of McCrae novels and love them. But this was, dare I say it, even better? I did miss Steele's dark humour, but the cracking story made up for it.

Twists and turns.

Full of surprises and intrigue, an ending that comes out of nowhere. Very hard to put down.
