Publisher's Summary
A desperate situation calls for dangerous deeds....
Proud heiress Arabella Larke has little respect for rules and no time for scruples - not when she faces marriage to a man she loathes and fears. Determined to save herself, Arabella comes up with a plan: a fake engagement with her childhood nemesis, Guy Roth, Marquess of Hardbury, recently returned home after years away. To Arabella’s surprise, Guy has become strong, honorable, and unexpectedly attractive...but he refuses to even hear her plan.
After leaving England to escape his corrupt, controlling father, Guy has vowed never to do anyone’s bidding again - certainly not Arabella’s. To Guy’s surprise, Arabella has become intriguing, quick-witted, and unexpectedly attractive, but he has enough drama trying to gain custody of his younger sisters, and he wants nothing to do with her dubious schemes.
Until Arabella shows up at his house one night, and Guy finds himself entangled to a dangerous degree....
Warm, witty, and moving, this historical romance tells the story of a proud, flawed lady and the man brave enough to love her.

The Longhope Abbey Series - a perfect remedy
While I really enjoyed Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series, devoured Loretta Chase's Carsington Brothers series (with an honorable mention for Lord of Scoundrels) and of course have been completely obsessed with Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series - this Mia Vincy Longhope Abbey series is ABSOLUTELY my FAVOURITE.
So much comedy, banter, sizzle, love and intrigue, it's completely addictive and life-affirming. I adore the way Vincy manages to bring just the right amount of character depth and plot complexity with a fun and light, slightly ironic self-awareness. It's a perfect remedy to the dull monotony of real life! I've listened to all three in the series twice now and enjoy noticing more detail and interconnection every time.
The series is perfectly matched with Kate Reading's delicious narration, with her funny and endearing voices for each character, and her clever ability to seamlessly guide you through the difference between what is internalised and out-loud. Her pace, comic timing, ability to flip from one character to another in rapid succession and her unique English accent are a compelling and engaging mix.
Thank you Vincy and Reading!!!

Another great Mia Vincy story
I really enjoyed this audiobook. The love interests had great chemistry and antagonistic banter. Both carried emotional baggage from their past that influenced their behaviour and thoughts to varying extents as adults. It's refreshing for a male lead to have emotional intelligence and apply it thoughtfully. It's also lovely to see a lady finally accept the fact that she too is deserving of love despite growing up doubting anyone could love her.
The narration was fantastic. The story is well developed. Although I felt the villain's demise was a bit anticlimactic (i was hoping for another twist and for Lord <scallywag> to be raked over the coals!), the story had a lovely ending. I recommend.
p.s. Honourable mention to Arabella's mum - a cool banana!
