About this listen

An accident. A forfeit of freedom. A descent into danger.

Liobhan, the young warrior and bard, has lost her brother to the Otherworld. Even more determined to gain a place as an elite fighter, she returns to Swan Island to continue her training. But Liobhan is devastated when her comrade Dau is injured and loses his sight in their final display bout. Blamed by Dau's family for the accident, she agrees to go to his home, Oakhill, as a bond servant for one year.

But Oakhill is a place of dark secrets. The menacing and enigmatic Crow Folk still threaten both worlds and while Brocc battles them in the Otherworld, Dau must battle his own demon - despair.

When Liobhan and Dau begin to expose the evil at the core of Oakhill, they place themselves in mortal danger. For their enemy wields great power and will stop at nothing to get his way. It will take all the skills of a Swan Island warrior and a touch of the uncanny to give them any hope of survival . . .

Stunning rendition!

I am a devoted fan of Juliet Marillier's work. Her books are researched so well. The world she writes about shows such an original mind. It could be (almost) a parallel universe where everything happens to belong to a time one thousand years earlier. Without so much as a flick of a wand from her, she turns us all into time-travellers!

Another captivating adventure

I loved this books so much, strong and vulnerable characters. An epic next part of the story with true Juliet style deepening of our heros as they tango with the uncanny.

Loved It!

Firstly, I greatly appreciate that compared with many other authors the wait between books is relatively short for Juliet Marillier fans. Like all her books when reading A Dance of Fate there is a sense that it has been crafted by highly skilled wordsmith.
A Dance With Fate, like its 5 star predecessors, is thoroughly enjoyable. I love that each chapter provides an insight into the main characters points of view allowing the reader insight into their emotions and thoughts.
My only grip was there where a couple of moments in the book where key characters acted in ways that seemed incongruent to their character which left me saying out loud "They wouldn't do that!". On reflection "real" people make choices both big and small that are not in line with their values and beliefs from choosing to remain on the couch and not exercise, to larger decisions they live to regret so why not characters in fiction? Don't let that put you off for this is a wonderful book not to be missed, with characters who will linger in your mind and you will look forward to returning to.
The narrator Imogen Sage does a superb job of bringing these wonderful characters to life.
I highly recommend a Dance With Fate and eagerly await the next instalment in the series.
