About this listen

Audible Studios presents a brand new recording of Charles Dickens' timeless seasonal story A Christmas Carol, performed by Hugh Grant.

First published in 1843, it tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean and unpleasant man who dislikes people generally and Christmas especially.

One Christmas Eve he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come and given a glimpse of the many homes and lives which Scrooge has touched in his wretched life to date. After their visits, Scrooge is transformed into a kinder, gentler man.

A Timeless Christmas Classic

This is my first ever read of the Classic tale which is astonishing as I'm 53! 😂 Of course, I've seen movies and I know the story but I have never actually read the whole story (well listened to it on Audible -read by Hugh Grant who surprisingly did various voices and was quite good. Not sure why I didn't think he'd be that good as I love him in movies but I wouldn't have picked him as a voice guy).

It's a timely reminder to live for the moment, enjoy friends & family and, although being financially stable is wonderful, it's not everything. Great read.

(I also only just watched It's a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart - loved it - for the first time ever!)

A book I thought I'd read...

Terrific fun to listen to. Hugh Grant is a wonderful narrator, just the right amount of character & caricature.

Brilliant narration

I wasn’t certain what to expect having Hugh Grant narrate this classic story. However, I was very pleasantly surprised and cannot believe how quickly it was over. I definitely wanted it to go on longer. Highly recommend
