A coastal fishing lad, by an act of heroism, secures the interest of a ship-owner, who places him as midshipman on board one of his ships. In company with two of his fellows, Jack is left behind, at Alexandria, in the hands of the revolted Egyptian troops, and is present through the bombardment and the scenes of riot and blood-shed which accompany it.
