About this listen
Two road trips. Twenty years apart. Can the memories of a troubled family past finally be put to rest?
When Tara Button’s mother asks her to drive the bright yellow family caravan from one end of the state to the other, it’s her charming but unreliable brother, Zac, who convinces her it’s a good idea. Besides, the road trip might keep Zac out of trouble–and that’s always been a second job for Tara.
Tara doesn’t expect Zac’s enigmatic friend Danh to come along for the ride. Or the bikies that seem to be following them up the coast....
As they travel along the open road, memories of the Buttons’ last trip in the caravan engulf Tara, while a rediscovered love for the wild, glorious ocean chips away at her reserve. When forced to face her past, will Tara find the courage to let go and discover her dreams?

Heartbreakingly beautiful.
I used to love fiction but the last few years have seen me almost exclusively read / listen to personal development literature. Caravan like a Canary changed that for me.
Listening to this book made me feel like a silent bystander. The characters were so real I could almost reach out and touch them. Like all great fiction, I felt their emotions and experienced the full range myself. The author’s ability to create empathy is exceptional.
This is outstanding Australian literature and I’m just sad I’ve finished the book. I wanted it to keep going. I’d rate it 5 popcorn buckets for sure (That’s 10/10 for those of you who haven’t read it).

What a tragic story yet equally triumphant . However the narration of characters was a little much. In my opinion would be better read

A lovely read
Anyone from WA will love this one. Past and present stories woven in together beautifully. Tragic and traumatic at times, but a really good book.

A good story well read
I really enjoyed this Australian family story. Characters were well drawn. The brother Zac was believable yet exasperating. Tara, the main character, desperately trying to put everything right, was also very believable. Nan was beautifully portrayed as the rock, giving both siblings love and stability.
I liked Zac for most of the story, but felt his character disappointed me at the end.
Well worth a listen.
