About this listen
From number-one New York Times best-selling author Stephanie Laurens comes the second title in a new Regency series, the Adventurers Quartet, featuring the adventures of four seafaring brothers and the women who capture their hearts.
Robert is the second-eldest Frobisher brother and is summoned to follow up on the secret mission started by his brother Declan. Arriving at the West African seaport settlement, he meets Aileen, who is determined to find her cousin who disappeared along with the other missing people Robert has been sent to find. Naturally, their paths cross. Robert knows how dangerous prying into this mystery is - other than Declan, everyone else who has investigated has disappeared, too - and he feels duty bound to dissuade Aileen from all further involvement. But she latches on to Robert and refuses to stay in safety when he goes deeper into the jungle.
Robert's reluctance to open up, to understand his own feelings, or even to engage with life itself beyond his ship is holding him back. But Aileen breaks through a crack in his armor. Will their connection strengthen and continue to evolve?

Mispronunciations abound, but thank goodness there's less deeply purple prose
The investigations continue into the abductions, and the story is fine, though the timeline could do with some thinking through. What continues to be irritating in the extreme, as always with her narrators, is their inability to pronounce soooo many words as rhe characters would pronounce them. Contribute, distribute, Lachlan, they're not tricky. One bonus is that with less ludicrously ott sex talk and emoting we don't have to listen to areola being messed up regularly.
