"Красное колесо" - книга, параллельная всей жизни Александра Исаевича Солженицына. 18 ноября 1936 года возник замысел: "Я буду писать роман о русской революции". Восемнадцатилетний студент начал с глав о боях в Восточной Пруссии в 1914 году.

В 1944 именно в Восточную Пруссию - по совпадению! - пришел он сам со своей батареей. Потом был арест. В Бутырской тюрьме, на пересылках, на шарашке, в лагерях Солженицын расспрашивал старших о Семнадцатом годе.
