Publisher's Summary
Rumor Mora fears two things: hellhounds too strong for him to kill, and failure. Jude Welton has two dreams: for humans to stop killing monsters and for his strange abilities to vanish.
But in no reality should a boy raised to love monsters fall for a boy raised to kill them.
Nyx Llorca keeps two secrets: the moon speaks to her, and she's in love with her best friend. Braeden Tennant wants two things: to get out from his mother's shadow, and to unlearn his colony's darkest secret.
To save everyone they love, they'll both have to commit treason.
During one 27-hour night, these four runaways must stop the war between the monsters and the colonies from becoming a war of extinction - otherwise, the things they fear the most will be all that's left.

Good but not great
This was a good book, but with the settings and characters it had the potential to be a great one. I feel like it had too many plots going on, the ongoing series in mind rather than developing this book independantly. This meant that characters and plots felt rushed. Too much was squeezed in and it left you wanting more at the end but not in a good way. The characters are great and varied but I feel like they could have been developed more so you felt properly attached to them by the end. Also, slightly ironically considering so many plots are yet to be resolved, the characters romantic arcs felt rushed (particularly one pair) I feel like that relationship would feel deeper and truer if it was written at a slower pace over the series.
That said representation was amazing and it was still a good book. I'll be buying the next in the series when it comes out.
