島抜けをした与三郎は、江戸にたどり着く。お富にひと目逢いたい。実家に行ってみると、おじさんから父親が七日前に亡くなったと告げられる。翌日、おじさんから聞いて品川に来た与三郎は、お富に出会う。食事をして酒を飲んだ末に寝込んでしまう与三郎。それを見たお富は、与三さんはもう逃げられない、愛する人を死刑にしたくない、と思い、匕首で与三郎の胸をひと突きする。与三郎は死にながらも笑みを浮かべていたという。馬生は悪事の数々に重きを置かず、悪事の間に芽生えた男女の情愛にスポットを当てて描いている。(C)1980 日本コロムビア株式会社
