عاد المغامرون الأربعة الى الفندق الذي ينزلون به في رأس البر بعد رحلة صيد قاموا بها في الصباح الباكر..ساروا في الممر المؤدّي إلى حجراتهم وهناك توقف طارق فجأة قائلًا: إنَّ رائحة غازٍ قوية تملؤ هذا المكان!!

كانت رائحة الغاز تنبعث من إحدى الغرف، فدقّ خالد على بابها مرة واثنتين ولكن ما من مجيب فما كان منه إلّا أن فتحه ودخل هو والآخرون..كانت الحجرة معبأة بالغاز تمامًا، فقد كانت نوافذها مغلقة مما اضطر الأولاد إلى كتم أنفاسهم قدر استطاعتهم وأسرعوا نحو الرجل النائم في سريره أو هكذا بدا فعندما اقتربوا منه فوجئوا بالشحوب البادي على وجهه، وحينما هزّه خالد محاولً تنبيهه لم تكن هناك أية استجابة!!

إنّها الصدفة التي قادت المغامرون الأربعة لاكتشاف محاولة ارتكاب جريمة بشعة وأثارت ظروف الحادث فضولهم فراحو يبحثون وراء سرّ هذه الجريمة..
