Most powerful important book I have read in a very long time
The Yield and Dark Emu need to be read by all Australians. It is so long overdue that we put our white fragility to one side and get on with the business of healing the generational traumas caused by colonisation. This book is also writerly and beautifully written, interweaving stories and language - providing proof of the power of words and language to create a sense of self and one’s world. Thank you Tara! Also beautiful reading and input from so many important scholars. I both read and listened. The audible version adds much depth and it is a joy to hear the beautiful Wiradjuri language spoken. Such a privilege.

The yield
I gave this book 5 stars. I think all Australians need to hear this history, it’s important. As a white Australian I endeavour to learn more about the true history of the place I live. It is a beautiful story, I cried at it’s beauty a few moments. I listened to it while driving across a part of australia and it gave the landscape more meaning. The narrator has a wonderful voice, I recommend hearing this on audio book because you can hear the wiradjuri pronounciation of words, and words, language is such an important part of this book.

Please listen to this story
I loved this book. It was so beautifully written. Whilst also containing so much heart ache and gruesome truths. I feel like I’ve received a little education and history lesson to boot. Really appreciated Tony Briggs’ performance too. Hearing the language was really powerful.

Sad, uplifting, eye opening, heart wrenching
Man's inhumanity to man knows no bounds! Recommended reading for all. Lyrical language, loved it!

Beautiful written but quite heavy to read ...
No doubt the Yield is a beautiful written book but found it quite difficult and heavy to read ...
Read this book for my Bookclub but decided to have the audio version and it was so much better and Tony Briggs's voice is so relaxed to listen to.

Beautiful Narration brought the story to life
While slow to start, this book (in my opinion) is better as an audiobook because you can listen to how to Aboriginal words are meant to be pronouned but I'll admit sometimes it was confusing who was who. I didn't find the story hard to follow but I was disappointed when the story had built up to a something only for a short paragraph or two then no further mention (I'll avoid mentioning what so there's no spoiler) but I felt that part of the book was skipped over or rushed. I did enjoy the rendition of Australia's history but there should have also been some warning about the abuse.

An incredibly moving account!
An incredibly moving account of the lived experiences of the original Australians after colonisation. Brilliantly written as an unfolding story of a family and their cultural, community and historical connections and trauma.

Finally an honest education of our traditional custodians
Moved in so many ways. The creative expressions and perspectives of such people. A book that has changed how I see this land and the people that call it home.

The Yield
This title as an audio book was beautiful, listening to the melodic aboriginal language connected to the land was deeply moving and will be a story that stays with me for a long time. Stories like this based on our history are essential for eliminating prejudice. To make us reflect on what could have been, if the First Australians had been cherished for their knowledge and understanding of this land.
