About this listen

Real Italian people don’t speak like your textbook…so it’s no wonder you feel unprepared when it’s your turn to speak! Try the StoryLearning method, and dive into a real-world, gripping drama between six characters that helps you learn authentic spoken Italian in the process.

Created by Olly Richards, internationally-renowned language teacher and author, this proven method of the immersive experience not only entertains, it gives you the skills to master realistic encounters in shops, cafés, and other, everyday scenarios! In this story, two friends, Alice and Nina, arrive in Rome for what they think will be a relaxing vacation exploring the city. Things, however, take an unexpected turn when they discover some very valuable paintings in one of Rome’s antique markets....

Whether you’re learning the Italian of Florence, Milan, Roman, Naples or even your local Italian-speaking community, you’ll learn to speak naturally wherever you go.

Best of all, you’ll be able to handle new scenarios with both ease and confidence!

“I love Olly’s work - and you will too!” (Barbara Oakley, PhD, Author of New York Times best seller A Mind for Numbers)

Helpful but production could be better

I bought this audiobook to listen to whilst reading the physical book. My plan is listen to the audio on its own, so I can get better at listening to Italian. The physical book has additional vocabulary for chapters when new words are introduced, which is helpful. The audio doesn’t but that it not a huge problem: you have to learn vocabulary in any event and if the vocabulary were to be explained at the beginning of each chapter, it would be cumbersome. My main problem with the audio book is that it is one actor reading out all the different characters’ lines. The actor tries very hard to differentiate the voices but it is not so great. The publishing company should have paid for some different actors/actresses in order to differentiate the voices better. It’s just a bit hard to follow. Otherwise, the book is enjoyable enough.
