舞台となるのは、異界と人の世界が交錯する世界 ── 。

腕ききの女用心棒・バルサはある日、川におちた新ヨゴ皇国の第二皇子・チャグムを助ける。チャグムは、その身に得体の知れない“おそろしいモノ”を宿したため、「威信に傷がつく」ことをおそれる父、帝によって暗殺されそうになっていたのだ。

チャグムの母・二ノ妃から、チャグムを守るよう依頼を受けたバルサは、幼ななじみの薬草師・タンダの元へ身を寄せる。そして、バルサとチャグムは、タンダとその師である呪術師のトロガイから驚くべきことを告げられるのだった ──
