＜第七回 やがて かなしき――狂詩の世界＞
江戸時代の中ごろから町人文化が興隆すると、町人層の好みが文学の領域に流れこみ、雑俳・川柳・狂歌・洒落本（しゃれぼん）などの滑稽文学が盛んになりました。この風潮は漢詩にも及び、とぼけ・おかしみの要素を備えた「狂詩」が流行することになります。
狂詩は漢詩の一種の発展形で、俗な言い回しを使ったり、和語の漢字表記を交えたりしながら、身近なことがらを面白く表現しています。ここではまず‟東の寝惚（ねぼけ）、西の銅脈”と言われた寝惚先生（大田南畝＝おおたなんぽ）と銅脈先生（畠中観斎＝はたなかかんさい）の作品を見、つづいて「節倹」「質実」を旨とする寛政の改革後、いくぶん真面目な詠みぶりになった狂詩の例として、方外道人の『江戸名物詩』のなかから二首を見ます。それらは江戸の老舗（しにせ）や有名店を狂詩の形で詠んだもので、詩による名店案内、という趣になっているのです。
