 ミュンヘンに留学中の画学生・巨勢と、数奇な人生を辿り美術学校のモデルとなっている少女マリイとの、儚い物語。


日本画学生の巨勢はドイツ・バイエルン王国の首都ミュンヘンで、六年前に出会った花売り娘のマリイと再会する。巨勢はマリイの面影が忘れられず、自作のローレライのモデルとしていた。マリイはいきなり巨勢に接吻する。驚く巨勢に、同行していた友人は「彼女は美術学校のモデルだが狂っている」と言う。
「うたかたの記」は、森鷗外のドイツ三部作と呼ばれる、主にドイツを舞台とした初期作品、異国情緒ある物語を森鷗外の流麗な文語体で書かれた儚い悲恋物語です。

森鴎外
1862年（文久2年）島根県に生まれる。森家は津和野藩の典医を務めた。10歳の時、父と上京し、官立医学校に入るためにドイツ語を学ぶ。1873年、東京大学医学部に12歳で入学。卒業後は陸軍軍医副になり、東京陸軍病院に勤務し、ドイツの衛生制度を調べるためにドイツに留学。1889年「小説論」、翻訳戯曲を発表するなど軍医でありながら文筆活動をしていた。「陸軍省医務局長まで務めたが、1916年に退官。その後、東京国立博物館に就任。1922年に60歳で死去。©2022 PanRolling Historical Fiction World Literature
