そもそも『悪魔のいる天国』は真鍋博さんのイラスト入りの書きおろし短編集という、前例のないことを目標に書きはじめた。長編ならまだしも、短編のそれは予想以上に大変だった。短編を発生させるには、雑誌の締切日の必要なことがよくわかった。ついに私も途中でねをあげ、雑誌発表のものもまぜて、本にまとめたのである。そんなこともあり、とくに愛着のある本なのである。（「著者よりひとこと」）
