歩美さんという体験者の女性が小学校二年生の時の事。
母親が病気で一か月ほど入院することになった。
父親は仕事が繁忙期で、まだ小さかった歩美さんは田舎の祖母のもとに預けられることになったそうだ。
祖母の家の周りはどこまでも田んぼや畑ばかりの大自然、幼い歩美さんにとっては近所に知り合いもいないし退屈で仕方なかった。
唯一の楽しみといえば目の前を走る川沿いをまっすぐ行った先に一軒だけある駄菓子屋に行き、
そこのおばちゃんとよもやま話に花を咲かせるくらいの事であった。
そんなある日大雨が降って、家から出てはいけないと言われていたが辛抱しきれず歩美さんは駄菓子屋に……。
