１９１８年、三田文学に発表された芥川龍之介の小説で、安土桃山時代の京阪地方の話し言葉が使用されている。
長崎の教会に通う熱心な教徒に「ろおれんぞ」という少年がいた。
彼はみんなから愛されていたが、同じく教会に通っていた傘屋の娘が妊娠し、
おなかの子の父親は「ろおれんぞ」だと言ったことから姦淫の罪で教会を追われてしまう。
まったくの濡れ衣を着せられ他の信者から疎まれても、彼の信仰心が消えることは無く、
祈ることをやめはしなかった。
芥川龍之介（あくたがわ・りゅうのすけ）
大正期の小説家。1892年東京都生まれ。東大卒。乳児期から母方の実家で育てられた。
東京帝国大学在学中の1916年に第四次「新思潮」創刊号に発表した「鼻」が夏目漱石に絶賛され
文壇にデビューする。初期の古典を材料にした「羅生門」「芋粥」「地獄変」などの名作を経て、「点鬼簿」「歯車」など自己の周辺にテーマを得た作品に移行。
様々なトラブルで心身とも衰弱し、1927年に自殺して36歳の若さでこの世を去る。
没後、親友である菊池寛によって、芥川賞が創設された。
