「かぐや姫」は『竹取物語』から、「鉢かつぎ」や「草木太平記」は『御伽草子』から、「腰折りすずめ」や「瘤とり」は『宇治拾遺物語』から、「黒い石」や「わざくらべ」は『今昔物語』から。
主に、人間とそれ以外のものとの関係、人間同士の関係を描いた作品で、誰しも一度は聞いたり読んだりしたことのあるお話ではないでしょうか。
「唐琴物語」は、平安中期のもので日本文学史上最古の長編物語といわれる『宇津保物語』を題材に、楠山が自由に構想した物語。
また、『日本の英雄伝説』は、神武天皇や日本武尊、聖徳太子や坂上田村麻呂、牛若と弁慶、そして源氏と平家のお話などがあります。
『日本の古典童話』も『日本の英雄伝説』も、わかりやすい構成と言葉で展開されており、お話のこころを子どもたちに伝えたいという楠山の本意と手腕によって、親しみやすさがあふれています。
