About this listen
島崎藤村の作品が詩から散文に移り変わるまでの間にある作品で、美しい情景や人々の交流から生まれる叙情的な描写をリアルに表現している。
のちに自然派主義の先駆けとも言われている島崎藤村の代名詞、徹底したリアリズムはこの作品で磨かれたものではとも言われている。
島崎藤村(本名春樹）は、明治学院在学中にキリスト教に入信し、西洋文学に影響を受け、北村透谷らと雑誌「文学界」を創刊しました。
それまでの和歌や俳句などの定型詩や漢詩とは異なる新しい文体の詩人として出発し、近代詩を確立していきました。
その後、小説執筆へと転じます。あるがままの現実を描き、且つ人間の内面を正直に描くという、写実主義と浪漫主義の両方を併せ持った、自然主義文学の代表的な作家となりました。
また、在籍期間は短かったものの、東京音楽学校にてヴァイオリン、ピアノ、コーラスを学んだという経歴も持っており、音楽に関する知識も豊富だったことがうかがえます。
出会った人物から様々な影響を受け、新しいものに対する情熱と探求心を常に持ち、それが創作の糧となっていたのでしょう。
1913年から3年間渡仏した際には、日本に残してきた4人の子どもたちに土産話として聞かせるために童話集をまとめています。
その童話集もたくさん版を重ねていることから、いかに読まれてきたかをうかがい知ることができます。©2022 PanRolling
