＜第十七回 蜀よ さらば＞
成都の混乱がいくぶん収まり、杜甫一家が浣花草堂に戻ったのは広徳2年（764）、杜甫53歳の秋でした。五言絶句「絶句二首」は草堂に帰って間もなくの作。「其の一」はうららかな春の昼の情景を対句形式で描き、「其の二」は、春景色をよそに、いつになっても北へ帰れない悲しみを訴えています。
永泰3年（765）、杜甫の随一の庇護者であった厳武が急逝、杜甫一家はそれを機に、五年半のあいだ生活した草堂を出、またもや旅の境遇となります。そしてこれは、杜甫にとって最後の旅路となりました。五言律詩「蜀を去る」は、その直前の作。自分の老衰を認め、朝廷のことは大臣たちに任せよう、と言っています。同じく五言律詩「旅夜書懐」は、長江を下る途中での作。夜景を眺めながら、思いどおりにゆかない我が人生を嘆いています。
