＜第二回 洛陽から長安へ＞
杜甫は二十四歳で科挙に落第したあと斉・趙（山東・河北省）を歴遊、三十歳のとき洛陽に帰り、楊氏の娘を妻に迎えます。その後、三十代前半で斉・魯（河南・山東省）をめぐり、三十五歳のとき都長安に出、貴顕の人々の社交界に出入りします。その間、三十三歳のとき洛陽（もしくは東魯）にて、都を追放されたばかりの李白と出会い、以後三年ほど彼と行動を共にしました。
五言律詩「房兵曹の胡馬の詩」は、知人房氏が所有する西域産の名馬をほめたたえたもの。杜甫の観察眼の鋭さと、それを表現する造句力の巧みさがきわ立っています。七言古詩「飲中八仙の歌」は三十五歳で長安に出た直後の作。当時の都でよく知られた愛酒家八名の酔態を、伝聞も交えておもしろく描き出しています。七言絶句「李白に贈る」は、敬愛する大詩人李白と旅行中の作。李白の不遇を案じるとともに、なかなか活路を見いだせない自分自身をも憐れんでいます。
