- Scott Pape touts The Barefoot Investor as 'The Only Money Guide You'll Ever Need'. Unlike other listens in the finance category that prioritise motivation over method, Pape’s definitive guide to personal finance is relatable, straightforward, and 100% practical. You’ll learn which super funds to put your money in, which bank account to sign up for, and step-by-step formulas to manage your money and take control of your wealth. The best part about the audiobook is Pape’s engaging, down-to-earth narration style. You’ll instantly feel like you’re listening to a trustworthy mate relay tips on money, rather than a financial advisor. There’s no question about it: if you’re an Aussie, The Barefoot Investor is quite literally one of the most worthwhile investments you can make.

- You Are a Badass at Making Money is the book you need if you've spent too much time watching money land in your bank account and then roll through your fingers. Jen Sincero went from living in a converted garage to travelling the world in five-star luxury in a matter of years. It goes without saying that she knows all too well the layers of lies that get wrapped up around money — and what it takes to dig your way out. In this funny and fascinating book, she goes in-depth on how powerful our thoughts are and how our bank accounts are mirrors of our beliefs about money. Narrated by Sincero herself, this audiobook speaks to listeners like a friend, convincing them to reframe the way they think about finance. The philosophy that Sincero articulates is motivating, affirming, and meets listeners where they are, energising them for whatever the next step on their money path might be.

The Big Short
- Inside the Doomsday Machine
- Narrated by: Jesse Boggs, Michael Lewis
- Length: 9 hrs and 27 mins
- Release date: 15-03-2010
- Language: English
- This incredibly original work is author Michael Lewis’s scathing, skewering explanation of what happened leading up to the Wall Street crash of 2007. The very fact that this work of financial nonfiction was easily converted into a character-driven blockbuster hit in 2015 is an excellent indicator of how refreshingly action-filled The Big Short is, and narrator Jesse Boggs performs the story with as much enthusiasm and genuine connection to the story as the actors in the film. You may recognise Michael Lewis’s name from the similar smash hit Moneyball, and The Big Short again demonstrates Lewis’s talent for picking apart a complicated mathematical concept and laying it bare in a way that listeners can follow.

Rich Dad's Guide to Investing
- What the Rich Invest In That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not!
- Narrated by: Tim Wheeler
- Series: Rich Dad Series
- Length: 14 hrs and 27 mins
- Release date: 01-01-2012
- Language: English
- Robert T. Kiyosaki is this title’s 'Rich Dad', an author whose claim to fame is a series of personal finance guides organised around the premise that financial knowledge rarely crosses class boundaries. Since it’s largely passed down from parent to child and, therefore, only rich kids get advice from rich adults. In this entry in the series, he focuses on investing, drawing a clear differentiation between the skill of managing money versus the skill of growing it. Kiyosaki’s overall approach is refreshingly well-explained, free of jargon, and — thanks to Tim Wheeler, who narrates all of Kiyosaki’s published works — feels less like a lecture and more like a private conversation with a particularly generous, wise uncle. Additionally, the author weaves his financial philosophies into the narrative, which helps ground the lessons firmly in context.

The Most Important Thing
- Uncommon Sense for The Thoughtful Investor
- Narrated by: John FitzGibbon
- Length: 7 hrs and 9 mins
- Release date: 22-08-2012
- Language: English
- In the saturated genre of investment wisdom, it’s difficult to write something truly unique. However, Oaktree Capital Management chairman and cofounder Howard Marks manages to do just that by displaying the real day-to-day thoughts and considerations derived from a long career in investment. Bolstered by the performance of narrator John FitzGibbon, Marks encourages listeners to be contrarian, finding opportunities to think innovatively and being willing to switch tactics to stay ahead of the pack. His takes are as functionally useful as they are off-the-beaten-path, making this a great choice for those just starting out as well as long-time investment listeners looking to switch things up.

- Narrated by: Eric Meyers
- Series: The Wolf of Wall Street, Book 1
- Length: 20 hrs and 20 mins
- Release date: 07-11-2013
- Language: English
- Stock market multimillionaire at 26, federal convict at 36... Jordan Belfort’s story is nothing short of an epic fall from grace. The Wolf of Wall Street provides an accurate snapshot of exactly what life on Wall Street was like before the quants changed the game — and what happened when it all came tumbling down. Adapted into an Academy Award-nominated film in 2013, Belfort’s original story is just as hard-partying and unbelievable thanks, in part, to narrator Eric Meyers, who specialises in action-filled thrillers. The audiobook goes a step further, including all of the nitty-gritty details that the screenwriters left out. The result is an audiobook that’s at times jarring, at times shocking, but always engaging.

- While many of the authors on this list are considered influential in the investment space, Ray Dalio has been among TIME’s most influential people in the world. As the founder of Bridgewater Associates, Dalio’s is perhaps one of the most valuable perspectives on investing in existence. In Principles, he distils his life’s worth of learning into actionable lessons that anyone can apply to their own portfolio. In his own voice, Dalio couches his teachings in stories of his own inspiring rise and the formation of Bridgewater. The result is a story that’s equal parts as entertaining as it is educational.

The Intelligent Investor Rev Ed.
- Narrated by: Luke Daniels
- Length: 17 hrs and 48 mins
- Release date: 07-07-2015
- Language: English
- The Intelligent Investor is a comprehensive primer on a conservative financial strategy called value investing. In other words, this is not an audiobook for thrill-seeking day traders looking to build a meteoric fortune. Benjamin Graham’s balanced, well-rounded advice offers an uncomplicated and accessible path to relatively stress-free investing that will pay dividends in the long term. Narrator Luke Daniels brings his background in classical theatre to his performance, keeping the narration dynamic and helping Graham’s takeaways resonate with the listener. The best part? While most finance audiobooks are a product of their time, The Intelligent Investor is timeless. Despite being published decades ago, additional annotations will help you apply Graham’s wisdom to the modern market conditions.
