I discovered at a young age that my job was to entertain. I began on the stage as an actor and dancer and spent decades learning every aspect of the theater. After exhausting all avenues, I ventured into film and worked in front of and behind the camera. At a point along the way, I was hired as a "script doctor" for a screenplay. The producer knew I had written several stage plays and trusted me to see the differences inherent in screenplays.
The experience left me wanting more. I spent a long time writing screenplays and traversing the Hollywood jungle before I realized that writing novels was a better way to utilize my talents. It was better for my state of mind, as well. As is my tendency, I spent many moons learning my new trade before writing in earnest. I continue to broaden my knowledge with every paragraph I write.
Being a novelist is no more difficult than the other creative jobs I've had and equally satisfying. But the best part for me is that I can stage an epic piece of entertainment, with elaborate scenery, exotic locations, and interesting characters, all on my own. All I have to do is put my fingers on the keyboard and let 'er rip. For a born entertainer, it doesn't get better than that.
And as I get older, and the body begins to act up, it is refreshing knowing that I can continue my life's work without breaking my back. I hope you'll continue reading my books. Without an audience, there's nothing left for me to do.
Thanks, Marc
