Raised on a small farm in Waterville, Maine, Obed early exulted in the out-of-doors. Skating on many kinds of ice in wintertime. Playing in orchard and hedgerows, exploring lakes, streams, and mountains, studying plants and birds in summertime.
The subjects and settings of her work reflect these childhood experiences. The lyrical style of her work reflects her love and study of music.
Her writing became profoundly influenced by the years she lived in Labrador as an adult, studying its flora, teaching, and raising three children. Now northern subjects give her chief enjoyment. Author of eight books, including BORROWED BLACK, A LABRADOR FANTASY and TWELVE KINDS OF ICE.
