Bruce Friedrich is founder and president of the Good Food Institute (GFI), a global network of nonprofit science think tanks with over 225 full-time team members across affiliates in the U.S., India, Israel, Brazil, Singapore, Japan, and Europe. GFI focuses on alternative protein policy, science, and industry engagement to accelerate plant-based and cultivated meat science and innovation, aiming to strengthen the global protein supply while safeguarding the environment, improving public health, and mitigating hunger and malnutrition. Climate charity evaluator Giving Green recommends GFI as a top six charity for climate impact, highlighting its “successful track record, breadth of expertise, and strategic approach,” and calling it “a powerhouse in alternative protein thought leadership and action.” And Charity Navigator ranks GFI among the top three charities in the U.S. for climate impact. Bruce is a TED Fellow, Y Combinator alum,"American Food Hero" (EatingWell Magazine), and popular speaker on food innovation. He has penned op-eds for the Wall Street Journal, Guardian, Foreign Policy, Nature Food, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Wired, CNN, and many other publications. He has represented GFI on the TED Radio Hour, New Yorker Radio Hour, Recode Decode, the Ezra Klein Show, Making Sense (Sam Harris), and a variety of other podcasts and TV programs. Bruce's 2019 TED talk has been viewed more than 2.4 million times and translated into 30 languages. Bruce graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown Law and also holds degrees from Johns Hopkins University, the London School of Economics, and Grinnell College.
