Wouldn’t recommend

The last few chapters definitely made up for the slow start and middle section. But the narrating voices really affected how much I enjoyed this story. In the end I had to listen to the book on 1.5x speed just to get through it as it was too distracting from the actual story line. I’ve had friends who absolutely loved this book but it was a realllll push for me to get through

Shocked

I can’t believe this is a true story of 3 woman. Women’s emotions are so much more empowering!
Love this book it’s a must for every woman young and old.

Get comfortable being uncomfortable

I really appreciated the dynamic stories of all of the women in this book. I found myself cringing and feeling intrigued at the same time.

Scar Tissue

It's an inside look under the hood of womanhood, brilliantly told, loved it and highly recommend

A difficult but necessary read

It’s hard to read at times because it forces women to reflect on their own internal thoughts and lives and to realise that they themselves have had similar experiences and thoughts. This can be extremely uncomfortable. But it is a necessary read. At the very least to help us move towards our own and each other’s distress and pain. As opposed to away from it.

Compelling, curious, fresh

Lisa Taddeo has an interesting voice and her subject is fascinating. Three women's stories which delve into the sexual lives, and compromises made, on their journey to womanhood. There's something here that's resonant for every woman, I'm sure.

Overall I was engaged and interested, but felt there was some imbalance in these women's stories. Maggie's is the strongest, with the most dramatic narrative arc. The Sloane and Lena stories are less directional, and at times feel meandering and lightweight next to the drama of the 'romance' and heartbreak of Maggie's story. But this is interesting terrain for sure, and makes you contemplate your own relationships and female experience in a new light.

Great also to have real performers reading - especially Mena Suvari - but all three brought something to their performances. It's a good sign that Audible is producing high-quality stories of this genre and with consideration for a sophisticated female audience.

The epilogue seals the deal

I’m not a huge reader, but this is very good, so many themes here are so important. Once I got to the epilogue, found a whole new respect for this author. Well done :)

Not quite what I was expecting.

I found this slightly challenging to listen to as an audio book for a start and didn’t quite expect the style of story telling. Became gripping in the end though. Wished it continued!
