About this listen
Life as a raider in the Wastes, where monsters roam and the military lurks, is as easy as it sounds.
I’ve been out here for a long time, and the fear that courses through my blood every time I step outside our camp walls to scavenge never fades. No matter how many monsters you face—and have to run for your life from—it doesn’t ever get easier.
But when I come across a bound and injured monster in an abandoned military base, I can’t leave him behind. His presence in our camp is causing tension, but I can’t bring myself to care when I get to see a different side to him—when he starts to show me who he is beneath the pain and lingering trauma.
Despite his gentle nature, I soon discover why others are so desperate to own him; why the military, and now this stranger lurking outside our camp, want to put him back in chains and take him away from me.
Something is hiding under his skin, something that threatens to upend my entire life.
There’s a reason why all other monsters fear him.
The Rycke contains explicit sexual content, graphic depictions of torture and violence, and deals with PTSD. It is book three in the Monstrous series, a post-apocalyptic m/m fantasy series that features monsters and human men falling in love. It is best to listen to the series in order.

UGH I love these characters so much!
I was a little lost with the narration for a few chapters, but I'm not surprised as the narrator has such a deep voice compared to these soft spoken guys. I got right into it after a few chapters and lost that jolt of the characters not sounding like I expected them to.
we met a few other characters in future books here, and I seriously can't wait for those books to be voiced. nice to finally get to camp and meet everyone 🥰.
while Rycke isn't my favourite book in the series, I loved this and will be listening again soon.

Not what I was expecting but still very good.
The narration was quite different to what I was expecting for these characters (and so of the other characters that appear in later books) but once I got over that it was very well done and the production has improved greatly since book 1.
Since reading this on Kindle I had forgotten just how triggering this particular book is for me. With the deep feelings of anxiety, self-conscious, and loneliness experienced through the eyes of the main character, I really struggled to get through this story again. I made it through by alternating listening to Pride and Prejudice as soon as I felt it getting a bit too much.

Loving the series
Not my favourite in the series, but still enjoyed it. The author's writing brings the world to life in my imagination making it easy to see earth 20 years on from an invasion. The narrator's choice for the monster's voice took some getting used to, but I applaud his ability to give each character their own personality. I've already downloaded the next in the series.
