Michael Brissenden has worked for the ABC for more than 30 years. He has been a political journalist and foreign correspondent for the ABC since 1987. He began his career covering federal politics and has been a correspondent in Moscow, Brussels and Washington. Michael covered many of the biggest international stories of the 1990s and early 2000s from all corners of the globe. He was the political editor for The 7.30 Report in Canberra from 2003 to 2009 and the ABC's Defence and National Security Correspondent, and most recently he has worked as host of AM national radio program. A two-time Walkley Award winner, Michael has recently joined the ABC'S 4 Corners as a reporter.

newsworthy but one pace
Peter Phelps has a nice voice but I found the narration a bit flat in that there was little differentiation between his characters. The novel was ok, i felt the twist was a little obvious and fishing for a second book. quite a bit of overstating the obvious in the characterisation and characters could have been developed more, perhaps a few could just not be developed. i wanted to love this but just liked it. not bad for a first book. small improvements would make the next one far better.

Good thriller needs more attention to fix production glitches.
Good storyline but audible repeated a chapter. Chapters were always one higher than the one being read.

Glocks don’t click when you deactivate the safety mechs.
A good read, shame the ‘spooks’ smoked dope.... written for an audience who watches tv dramas.

Gripping political thriller

What other book might you compare The List to, and why?
I have read very few books like this, but John le Carre's books come to mind.
Which character – as performed by Peter Phelps – was your favourite?
Sid was the dominant character, and so perhaps my favourite. I must say there were times I was wondering who was who - perhaps there were too many characters in the book.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The moment when Haifa realized her brother was probably mixed up in IS-type terrorism.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this book a lot. As far as I know there are few if any books about terrorist threats to contemporary Australia, and this one is well-constructed and written - though as I say i got confused at times. I can imagine it being filmed.

Outstanding 5+
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very refreshing to have a great Australian spy/detective/political thriller.
Well written and fast paced it flowed along to a great ending. Hope there is a sequel
Great narration by Peter Phelps (would listen to him again).
Well worth the listen.
