About this listen
Raine has been captured by the Goddess of the Underworld, and her fate is exactly as she feared. The curse of the Arlanians, their intense sexual desirability and uncontrolled physical response, plays against her as Hel demands that she share her bed. But it is not Hel’s mistreatment of her that distresses Raine the most. Rather, it is the curious deference with which the Goddess treats her that fills her with dread.
The allies in the mortal realm know that Raine is held prisoner, and there is no word of Raine’s love, the Ancient Dragon Talan. Still, that will not stop them from mounting a rescue. Planning moves forward until the final line of the prophecy reveals an unexpected translation, and all is thrown into disarray. Resolve falters as the ominous meaning becomes clear. The people of Arianthem must decide a course of action, for now they battle not merely a god, but fate itself.
Even so, the mage Idonea, the elves Feyden and Elyara, the dwarf Lorifal, and the imperials Dagna and Bristol have sworn to rescue their comrade. And the young Tavinter leader, Skye, will not let them leave without her. This small band of adventurers, a handful who have actually been to the Gates of the Underworld, will save their friend, even if they have to go it alone.

A great fantasy adventure *but!* STRONG Trigger warning
I rarely write reviews because it’s only my own opinion and you know what they say about opinions lol
Ok this questing fantasy was 👏simply👏frecking👏 a👏maz👏ing👏
But… as someone with close friends and family members who have suffered sexual assault, i had to skip through A LOT of the ‘scenes’ being described as it was too much 😞💔
I was caught between putting this book series down many times, only for the magical story-weaving from the same mind that also kept poking at the pain in my heart for those who’ve suffered the trauma… i mean this with love Samantha, i’m uncertain of your pronouns or your personal history, but please, if you can, if future books, a move away from having such ‘rapey’ content, you don’t need it you are, your writing is friking spellbinding, you don’t need the detail…
I won’t specifically detail this next part but again, generized *trigger warnings* should be stamped all over this for the inferred child abuse parts. Again, you are one of my favorite authors now, if only we could enjoy the story without the stabs of sickness those parts pulled from me. So torn… ugh.
Thank you for bringing these strong characters to our world, through your books, your art; may you find a safer tale to reveal for our minds seeking escape in your next books 🫶
