About this listen

Thailand 1996. The Year of The Rat. Pete, a young travel writer, wanders into a Bangkok go-go bar and meets the love of his life. Joy is the girl of his dreams, young, stunningly pretty, and one of the Zombie Bar's top-earning pole dancers.

What follows is a roller-coaster ride of sex, drugs, and deception, as Pete discovers that his very own private dancer is not all she claims to be. And that far from being the girl of his dreams, Joy is his own personal nightmare.

Beware of the thai bar girl

Very interesting betrayal of the bar girl Svetlana in Thailand sad as it is they are truly compulsive liars given their method of earning money there’s a good reason why they need to continuously lie Due to the way they manipulate money out of the Westerners.

Great read, especially if your familiar with the fit and the industry!

Really enjoyed this book, I know many of the places and mindsets discussed which makes it even more pleasurable,

Also good narration which makes or breaks a book here on Audible

the female voice of joy is rediculous.

Im not sure if Joy sounds Jamaican, African , Asian or European or maybe its a mix of all. The lady who reads Joys part is obviously english with no idea of how a Thai lady sounds! Her Thai accent it terrible!!! I had to stop listening.

insight into Thai culture and sex industry

serves as a terrific education on the thai sex industry and culture in general. should be standard issue for anyone in a cross cultural relationship with a Thai. the insights were great, but the story is very repetitive. I would have much preferred to hear more about the minor characters than endless lamenting from Pete about not being able to trust his sex worker lover.
