About this listen

Erika: His name is Michael Crist. My boyfriend's older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He's handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college's basketball team and now gone pro, he's more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

Michael: Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika. My brother's girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven't had her body, I know that I have her mind. That's all I really want, anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college. In my city. Unprotected. The opportunity is too good to be true. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they're out. We've waited. We've been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

What a story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok… Firstly, this isn’t a light hearted listen.
It will have you on the edge on your seat in anticipation and suspense the whole time.

I’m exhaling after listening… a bit lost in thought, but also resolved and wow’ed by the story.

Highly recommend for Penelope Douglas fans!

Maybe i’m twisted?

I was nervous going into this because of all of the reviews saying it’s a heavy read and to be careful etc. but I didn’t really find anything to be triggering? Yes there are darker themes but by far not a difficult story to stomach. It was a great listen, the narrators did a great job!! I did find myself slightly bored by the storyline and zoning out sometimes but overall I enjoyed the story

ok

interesting concept, if you can follow the timeline and character perspective jumps, quit confusing at times

Be prepared to be angry

I was so angry and frustrated for almost ALL of this book. It wasn't until the last hour or so that I could finally stop feeling so agitated! This story will suck you in and you CANT STOP listening. I'm happy I finished it and got the closure I needed but damn if I could go back I probably would not have started this book because it affected my real life moods so strongly with an emotion I really don't like feeling. Readers beware but if you do dare to brave the book, it's a sweet ending.

Where do I even start

Booktok lead me astray, not only with it being an amazing read but the amount of spice.....

I swear I had no idea what was happening for half of this book.

Now I am all about a good bit of spice but damn it doesn't make up for serious lack of substance!

Regardless of how hot a man may be, how can you still want to be with a man who does the following to you:

Including but not limited to:

Almost allows a gang r*pe
Burns your house down
Steals and freezes all your money
Hides your mum (luckily safe but allows you to think shes hurt)

Rika was boring with no personality
All the males in this book were feral animals with no substance

If the story line was better and the characters had any reddeming personality it would've been alot better.

*Honorable Mention*

Am I the only person who got unnessecarily annoyed by the constant repeating scentence of "Blah Blah was playing on the radio* - Just me?? XD

ALSO surely if he has been pining over her for years, he wouldn't have let his friends do all of those things?? I clearly much prefer the over protective vibes of Lucy Score's leading men "Nash, Lucian and of course Knox" and Ana Huang's leading men "Alex, Josh and of course Rhys"

Wow if you are still here go you! I expected this to be a quick small review but I just couldn't stop tying haha I promise I am no prude, this book just pissed me off XD

Love love love

This is one of my favourite books, I have read this book multiple times and this was the first time listening to it on audible and it gave me the same feeling it did when I first read it!

A good listen

Overall I really enjoyed the book. The characters were very young to be caught up in all that drama, but all in all I really enjoyed it.
I wasn’t a fan of the narrators, Jeremy doing a woman’s voice, terrible.
But looking forward to listening to next Devils night book…

It's giving Den of Vipers vibes

PROS
Spice was nice 👌
Story line was decent, including a couple times I couldn't stop listening and had to keep listening to the next chapter!

CONS
The FMC spends most of the book whining and in tears and it's beyond frustrating
The narrators didn't suit the FMC and MMC and sounded 10+ years older than the characters they were voicing
The name "Rika" shitted me off. No one would abbreviate Erika to Rika. Blerrgh

Overall, this book helped me understand a couple of things:
1. It's very likely Penelope Douglas needs therapy.
2. It would appear I like questionable consent, bullying and abduction tropes more than I realised. Maybe I also need therapy...

The grovel just wasn't enough

The first book in the Devil's Night series is the story of Michael and Erika. It is a story of revenge best served cold. Three years after the night, everything went wrong.

There was so much animosity and hatred directed towards Rika, and she had no idea why.

I don't think the grovel level was appropriate when everything came to light.

I read on Kindle and read along on Audible.
