About this listen
Carmen Walker has spent the last three years of her life focusing on avenging the murder of her husband. Following leads to the man responsible, she finally has a chance to bring closure to the overwhelming pain and grief that is slowly eating away at her. Catching a ride on a business jet copiloted by her sister, Carmen heads to California to meet with her informant. But plans suddenly change when a woman on the plane is kidnapped, and Carmen is mortally wounded. She wakes to find herself aboard an alien warship heading to a distant world.
Creon Reykill's skills as a warrior are legendary among the Valdier, but he has given up hope of ever finding his true mate, believing his soul is too dark ever to be gifted with one. That all changes when a small, delicate female unlike anything he has ever seen before is brought to his world. The moment he sees her, he knows she belongs to him. His dragon will do anything to claim her, his symbiot will do anything to protect her, and Creon will do anything to chase the shadows from her eyes. He knows he has found the light to his darkness, but now he must corner Carmen long enough for her to realize that he is the only one in the universe who can heal her shattered heart. Can he convince her to give love a second chance before she risks everything - including her life - for revenge?

Different perspective in audible.
I thought this was such a sad beginning when I read the book but listening in audible, I thought how inappropriate it was that Carmen and Scott were doing the work they did. I know everything happens in such a short period of time, newly married and just found out they were pregnant, but they had been together for YEARS. That was not a good line of work to be in for a long life, surely they should have been talking about leaving prior to get married. Apart from that annoyance in the prologue the rest of the book was great. BOOK REVIEW My heart has bled for Carmen since we learnt her story in book 1. Reading what happened at the beginning of this book made me cry, then travelling along with her as bits and pieces were told broke my heart. I love that Creon is strong enough to support her needs and help her do what she needs to put the past behind her, get closure and move on to her new life. This doesn’t mean Carmen has made it easy, none of the earth women have and this has given us a great set of stories to enjoy. The dragons and symbiots in this series make me laugh out loud. Creon is the youngest of the five princes and is the scariest if not the deadliest of them all. A real alpha male who played a major part in ending the Great War. These two are one of the best matched couples I have ever read about. The tenderness Creon showers on Carmen once she believes she has the right to love again is fantastic. The ending is also fun. Another tough alien warrior hits the floor. The interaction between all the different stories which all run consecutively is so well done that even though you know this is in another book it all flows and makes perfect sense. Ms Smith writes the best stories but they could do with better proof reading for silly mistakes.
