About this listen

Jayne Shepherd has spent his life blending in. He smiles. He laughs. He’s likeable. He’s also a sociopath. His emotions are limited. Love, fear, and desire don’t exist in his world. Until he meets Elijah.

Elijah Dunne had everything. Third generation Hollywood royalty. Child star. Untouchable. Until one man ruined it all. Elijah fled LA to try to forget, but now, he’s back on top and back on a monster’s radar. Elijah doesn’t think he’ll ever feel safe. Until he meets Shepherd.

Elijah and Shep only have one thing in common. They both wear masks. Shep makes Elijah feel protected. Seen. Elijah makes Shep just feel. Now that he’s had a taste, he’s not about to let him go. Everybody warns that what they have isn’t real. Shep is obsessed with Elijah, not in love. But Elijah craves Shep’s obsession. He can’t imagine life without him.

In Hollywood, being a sociopath is more of a life skill than a diagnosis. Could Shep be the monster Elijah needs to finally slay his demons?

Captivating is the second book in the Elite Protection Services Series and contains age-gap, cum-play, voyeurism, and one very sexy interrogation scene with an HEA and no cliff-hangers.

Warning: This book contains talk of past child sexual abuse.

Fan-f**king-tastic!!

This was so good. All the hard and uncommon topics treated with so much honesty and respect. Sexy and brutal and really a bit morbid and I loved it.

Sociopath and a cinnamon roll

Captivating is book two in the Elite Protection Series series. A MM romance with age gap and BDSM elements.

Elijah has Hollywood in his blood and was a child star until it was ruined by one man. Now he's back on top he needs a bodyguard.
Shep is a sociopath. Wearing whatever masks he needs depending on his surroundings. Until he meets Elijah...
I love the sociopath and the cinnamon roll aspect. Its one of the things I enjoy most about Onley's books. The darkness and the light colliding perfectly!

Liked This as An E-book, But in Audiobook. Nope.

I'm dismayed by how much I liked this in e-book after just finishing listening to the audio version. There's been a gap between reading and listening. I bought this audio based on the fact that I really liked the e-book. I dragged the chain listening. I just couldn't handle any long stretches of listening. Maybe the issue is that in audiobook story flaws showed up more. I know that Shep is called cyborg by Elijah but the narrator's monotone voice was so ordinary and annoying. This is supposed to be the speech or voice of a high functioning sociopath... apparently. And Elijah sounded truly goofy. I could not enjoy the MCs here. The females had god-awful voices as well, horrid, screechy things, I wanted them to stop! I was left unsoothed by my experience with this audiobook and this narration. I listen to audiobooks because they do soothe me and help me unwind. Usually.

These books by James are well received, I believe the narrator too, and I think I rated the e-book 5 stars at the time I originally read it but, to be completely honest, I simply did not like this audiobook.
