About this listen

“I’ve never done this before! I’m not sure I can!” I panic in the candlelit room. The sound of my own voice startles me. It’s barely been above a murmur for the past three years.

“You can do this,” says the low deep voice from the bed.

My gaze is pulled back to him. Matthew Goddard. Injured and found on the grassy mountain slopes three months ago, nursed back to health by me. Well, me and the other flush-faced nun standing here too. As the only two young nuns in the convent, we were given the task of feeding him, medicating him, reading to him, keeping his spirits up as he healed.

“You can do this,” echoes Sister Mary, her face flushed with desire.

“Call it an act of service,” says Matthew, smiling.

“Mary, touch him,” I breathe, and he stays perfectly still as we both run our fingers over his body. Breathing hard, he captures Mary’s touch and brings her fingers to his mouth.

Captivated, I watch him taste her fingertips before running his tongue thickly up her index finger. She gasps at the same moment as I feel a throb of moisture hit me in places I’ve never been touched.

The Bible glows from the bedside table. Everything is at stake here. Everything.
