A bumpy but steamy ride!
Matteo Esposito works as an assassin for a clandestine US government organisation and feels good about taking it lowlife targets. But he questions the rightness of executing Riley Flynn, the CEO of Flynn Electronics, especially since his hot and heavy encounters with Riley have started to melt Matteo’s heart. Riley finds it hard to believe the man sent to kill him is now defending him from other assassins, he’s even more shocked when he realises Matteo is the mysterious man he’s had some dynamite encounters with.
Despite being the first in the ‘Assassin / Shifter’ series, it was confusing that there were no shifters! I‘m guessing the audiobook narrated by Greg Boudreaux is based on the revised edition of this book, because I didn’t encounter the same errors that early reviewers did. That’s not to say this doesn’t have some bumpy writing. Matteo and Riley basically fall into instalove during two anonymous sex encounters, which seems a stretch. The likelihood that Matteo would then be assigned to kill Riley is an even bigger stretch. This is a shorter novel (214 pp) so all the action, numerous sex scenes, and plot twists felt rushed. Having said all that, I didn’t hate the bumpy ride, but I won’t chase up the rest of the series.
