Story
Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?

Publisher's Summary
The ice is coming. It was the last thing we expected, but the world is freezing. A new ice age has dawned and humanity has been forced to confront its own extinction. Billions have fled the glaciers, crowding out the world’s last habitable zones. They can run from the ice, but they can’t escape human nature: a cataclysmic war is coming.
In orbit, a group of scientists are running the Winter Experiments, a last-ditch attempt to understand why the planet is cooling. None of the climate models they build make sense. But then they discover an anomaly, an unexplained variation in solar radiation...and something else. Close to the burning edge of the sun, they catch a fleeting glimpse of something that shouldn’t be there....
Suddenly humanity must face the possibility it is not alone in the universe. And the terrifying possibility that whatever is out there may be trying to exterminate us.

Read the book instead
The story is almost worth the gross American exceptionalism and the narrator’s appalling accents. Not sure he’s ever met an Australian before. Or a Russian that wasn’t a Bond villain.

I loved every minute of this trilogy.
I loved every minute of this trilogy 👌. I did not understand why Arthurs's arrogant voice changed from book two to three.

Kept me listening
Some books don’t hold me past chapter one. This book kept me all the way. A little different with two narrators but it works for this book. The story was pretty intriguing too. I look forward to the follow up book.

Winter World
I enjoyed this book somewhat, but there were also things I didn't like about it. The characters were good... but the narrators' Australian accents were SO BAD!!! I am Australian, and they were definitely not Australian accents. They sort of went between New Zealand/Jamaican/Indian/American. Thank God the Aussie woman wasn't in the book for very long. The ending was a bit anti-climactic. I would've liked more description of what was happening on Earth, but I get that this is a space book (although I didn't realise that until I started listening).

Great Sci-Fi
Excellent, for those interested in classic adult sci-fi. Well narrated (ignore the attempt at accents). No obscene or offensive language. Had me on the edge of my seat towards the end, looking forward to book 2.

not up to speed
the a g riddle books I have read so far were gripping, full of action and very imaginative story lines .
this one is just not up to the pace , quite slow and dragging and takes a while to develop the characters.
not sure I'm going to be able to read the whole trilogy, disappointed.

Race to save the world. An enjoyable read
The characters were likeable and there was no insufferable antagonist whose over the top awfulness spoils the book.

Accents?
The Australian accent meandered from Australian, through New Zealand, via South Africa back to Sydney. Worst Australian accent I have heard. I am Australian.

Not very good
Some very poor science. No proper understanding of orbital mechanics, physics or engineering. Fair enough, but is the story worth suspending disbelief?
I'm afraid not. We have the survival of the whole human race depending on one individual who is just so much smarter than everyone else. Please..
He gets to have a love interest whose demotion from an impressive ISS commander to mere adoring sidekick is annoying.
The narration was ok, particularly the female voice, but couldn't inject enough interest for me.
There are far better examples of this type of story that that provide much more intelligent scenarios and characters.
